When it finally comes to that greatly anticipated time of looking for destinations to go on your summer holiday, it is good to search a little further. There is sometimes so much to plan such as booking hotels, flights and in some cases car rental, but it does not have to be difficult. Places like Spain and Greece have been among the most popular holiday destinations for Sun and Sand. But there are so many other places that you can visit, which will give you a similar, if not better experience. It can be great idea visiting the same places again and again. You get more comfortable with the culture and begin to settle in and find your favorite restaurants and bars. This is fine, but it can become rather repetitive and eventually boring. Why not try somewhere different this year? Turkey is fast becoming a popular place for holidays and for good reason. If you do a bit of research, you can find some great deals on flights and also cheap hotels in Turkey. It is a beautiful country, and its fantastic weather, culture and food are well worth experiencing. Whether you are looking for a holiday in the city or on the beach, it is all available here.
Where East meets West
Turkey is a country that spreads across 2 different continents. It is mostly in Western Asia, but it does also cover South Eastern Europe too. It is often referred to as “Where East meets West”. The country itself has recently had a lot of western influence, but it still keeps its own unique identity. Its cuisine is popular all over the world, and it is clear to see why. Its exotic food is a fusion of Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisine, and it is certainly worth exploring the delicious dishes on offer. Below you will find some of the most popular dishes that are available in Turkey
- Kebabs (kebaps) – this is one of the most popular Turkish dishes. Essentially, it is meat on a skewer, which doesn’t sound too exciting but mixed with the freshest of herbs and spices, it can be absolutely delicious.
- Karniyarik – this dish is comprised of minced meat wrapped in Eggplant mixed with fresh tomato and garlic. This is a must try when visiting Turkey.
- Manti – a simple dish that only includes 2 ingredients, dough on the outside and the meat filling in the middle. It is much like a dumpling and again very agreeable.
- Dolma – is a vegetarian dish of which there are many available in Turkey, but this one in particular is vegetables stuffed with rice, onions and other herbs and spices.
You will also be able to find the most amazing breads, soups and grilled meats. There are many other dishes available but to talk about them all would take forever. My recommendation is to get immersed in the cuisine, and you will find some new and incredible flavors that you would otherwise never heard of or tried. This country should be visited to experience these wonderful foods, and it pays to ask questions of the locals and see where their favorite restaurants are.
Finding new foods that you love
We all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to food, but I have found that it is always important to try new things. Trying new and exotic foods not only widens our knowledge of the foods that we like, but also can stimulate and develop new connections in the brain. If you don’t try new things, how will you know if you like them or not? If you are a little worried about trying new things for the first time in an unknown country, perhaps try them at home first? Turkish restaurants and supermarkets are rife in a lot of western countries, and you will be able to get some lovely fresh produce from them. Do a little bit of research online and get out there, and soon you will find some new delicacies that you will not believe you have been missing.
When on holiday anywhere, it is important to find your feet and get comfortable with your new surroundings as soon as possible. Finding food that you love is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome. If have just arrived in a new country and perhaps feeling a little anxious or nervous, it is often the case that you will be hungry for something familiar. There are always similarities between all different cuisines so why not ask the staff at the front desk of your hotel what they recommend. Once you are comfortable and have that first meal out of the way, you will wonder what you were worried about in the first place. One must do is to eat where the locals eat. When you walk around and explore the city or town that you are in, you will see restaurants everywhere. If you see a restaurant that you like the look of and it is busy, give it a try. There must be a reason that many of the locals go to these places, and usually this reason is that their food is good. Turkey itself has the most amazing cities, the most popular of which is Istanbul. Unbeknownst to most, it also has the most beautiful beaches. When looking for a holiday to go on this year, don’t just settle for the familiar places, try somewhere new. You will not regret it.
