Top three resorts for a luxury holiday in Europe

It’s not always a summer holiday that we look for as many of us go away at different times of year and all for different reasons. For many of us having a holiday is a luxury in itself, but if it’s an indulgent holiday you’re looking for then here are some of the top destinations I have been to that have proved to be of high standard, from the rooms to hotel staff to the food and locations. We have booked our holidays with Thomson every time and they have never let us down from leaving the airport, throughout our holiday and returning home.

When visiting Italy we decided to book a luxury holidays from Thomson Lakes and Mountains and stay on one of their lake resorts, Lake Maggiore. The location itself was perfect, every morning waking up to the glistening azure lake and alpine hills. Our hotel was called the Villa e Palazzo Aminta, which felt like we stayed in a royal palace. The furnishings upon entering were plush and elegantly thought out colour scheme. The room was more than we could have imagined and the brochure didn’t do it justice. The hotel had a fantastic range of facilities such as private beach, spa, piano bar, fitness room, French bowls, tennis, water skiing and a private boat which took us to the Borromean Islands which were visible from our hotel. Whilst staying here we were a stone’s throw away from the restaurants and bars with easy access to Stresa, allowing us to explore another resort on a next to nothing bus ticket. The food here was second to none and where ever we ate or had drinks, had this wonderful buzz about it that was so welcoming and calming- we’ve never been so relaxed coming back from a holiday.

Poland was recommended to us, and we’re glad we took the word of a friend. They suggested the same hotel they stayed in, Litwor which was located in Zakopane. It was 5 star luxury, set in the alpine hills with mountains as its backdrop; it truly was a wonderful scene. It has very traditional Polish architecture with very modern rooms and facilities. This one, unlike others we visited had a hairdresser which was great to have before we went out for a divine 6 course dinner. The food available in the hotel was beautiful and each evening meals you were given the choice of main dishes for your 4 course dinner. We could easily walk into the resort centre where we could relax in local restaurants and bars whilst taking in the wonderful scenery.

Now, we absolutely love Switzerland and take as many opportunities to go skiing here during the ski season. Regardless of resort we are always welcomed with snowy peaks, crystal clear lakes and very pretty towns and villages, all with the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Everywhere you visit you will experience a variety of food, drink and traditional customs reflecting the swiss culture. Whilst staying here you can take yourself on various day trips to explore different areas of the country. On our last visit we stayed in Grindelwald at the Grindelwald Sunstar hotel. It’s 4 star luxury and has alpine decor throughout. The hotel offers a spa, herbal baths(very relaxing) live music lounge and fantastic views of the Eiger, a mountain in the Bernese Alps It has a perfect location for us as it is situated in the centre of the village allowing us to wander off and explore the village, enjoying the culture taking in the beautiful scenery.

These resorts are perfect any time of the year and every time we go we can just completely relax and shut out the outside world going on around us. They all have perfect locations so you’re not stuck within the one hotel or resort letting you go off and explore the local areas. There were many people there who were going off with the tour reps for walking activities and other trips for the day. So it’s good to know you can still go and explore once you arrive at the hotel. Some of these resorts may not at the top of your holiday list, but you really should check them out online by using trip advisor for some additional reviews.
