Ways to Ease Stress When Moving Home

For anyone who has moved house before, you’ll know how stressful it can be. Not only do you have loads of things to think about, but there are so many things which need to be planned and carried out. However, there are many ways in which you can ease the stress which you’re feeling during the move.

Start clearing out

Don’t clear everything out too soon, or you’ll find yourself without anything to eat and no towels to use after a shower. However, you can start by boxing up toys, ornaments and furniture which won’t be used until after the move. Books, magazines, kitchen items can all be packed away in a couple of weeks before you move, and just leave out the essentials that you’re going to need in the meantime.shiftinghouse

Get some time off work

If you have kids, try and get a relative or childminder to look after them for you in the days leading up to the move. Rather than trying to balance packing everything with going to work and sorting out your kids, clear your calendar as much as possible. Coming home after a day of work and then trying to sort things out won’t be very productive, and you’ll only make yourself even more tired and stressed.

Hire a company to help

There are many Gatineau movers which will help you with moving house and packing everything that you need to pack. If you can’t get time off work or you’ve discovered that there are too many heavy furniture items which require moving in time for the big day, you can hire extra help in order to assist you with this. On the day, make sure that you arrange a suitable time, and organize this with the company well in advance so that the slots you want haven’t been taken up by other customers.

Keep everything organized

You can start being organized several weeks in advance by making lists and ticking off different tasks as you complete them. Pack everything according to which category in fits into, rather than just putting anything and everything in the different boxes. Don’t leave boxes lying around the house in different places either – assign a room or area of the house so that you can gather the boxes in the same place.

Give yourself a deadline

Of course you have a deadline already – the day and time you have to move out of the house, but it’s a good idea to set yourself a deadline which is a few hours at least before this. By doing this, you’ll have some time to relax and chill out before you actually move, which will take off the stress, but psychologically, you’ll know you have a few extra hours to spare in case anything goes wrong or behind schedule.
